HYT and the BUMBA Foundation share a belief in providing education and training to create opportunities for disadvantaged young people, inspiring them and their communities through sustainable construction and educational projects.
The BUMBA Foundation, spearheaded by Martin Tilbury MBE, places a significant focus on ensuring that a project is genuinely sustainable. This approach fosters community engagement and adds value to their lives.
One such project has been the cultivation of cash crops, such as chilis, in development gardens using modern agricultural techniques. This practical reinforcement equips the community with the experience necessary to develop agricultural skills, providing long term employment opportunities.
HYT’s build and train model aligns with this vision. HYT built an indoor space, using the innovative Interlocking Stabilised Soil Block (ISSB) that offers panoramic views of the development gardens, while also training members of the Bumba community in construction.
Two members of the local village, Zabulah and Muhamuduh, worked as trainees with HYT manager, Denis, learning new building skills that will provide more employment opportunities
HYT leads the way in training young people in climate-friendly construction, enabling them to secure better employment opportunities after acquiring valuable masonry skills. This approach instils a sense of purpose and pride among community members, inspiring others to pursue education and improved job prospects.
